Hair loss 掉头发

Hair loss is the thinning of hair on the scalp which normally occurs with age in both men and women, but is usually more pronounced in men.

Some men never go bald but everyone’s hair thins out over the years. Despite much research, there is little men can do to slow down or reverse hair loss since it is likely caused by make hormones and genetic constitution.

Acute environmental or psychological stress can result in sudden, rapid shedding of hair. Although losing clumps of hair is alarming, the body will often adjust itself and in most cases, the hair grows back.

Using natural wheat-germe based hair products can help hair follicles stay clean and promote healthy hair growth.

Gastritis is a medical term for inflammation of the stomach lining. It means that white blood cells move into the stomach wall in response to some type of injury. • Excessive bacteria (helicobacter pylori) in the mucus lining of the stomach. Without treatment, the infection can lead to ulcers and possibly stomach cancer.
  • Pernicious anaemia – a form of anaemia that occurs when the stomach lacks a naturally occurring substance needed to properly absorb and digest vitamin B12.
  • Bile reflux – a backflow of bile back into the stomach.
  • Infections caused by bacteria or viruses.

Food poisoning 食物中毒

Food poisoning is a common, usually mild but sometimes deadly illness. Typical symptoms include nausea, vomiting, abdominal cramping and diarrhoea that comes suddenly but within 48 hours of consuming contaminated food or drink. Depending on the contaminant, fever and chills, blood stool, dehydration and nervous system damage may follow. These symptoms may affect one person or a group of people who ate the same thing.

The causes of food poisoning can be divided into two types: infective agents and toxic agents. Infective agents include viruses, bacteria, fungi and parasites. Food usually becomes contaminated with infective agents from poor sanitation, preparation and storage. Toxic agents include poison (e.g. poisonous mushrooms), improperly prepared exotic foods (e.g. fugu), or residual chemicals on fruits and vegetables.

Applied nutrition

Ensure that you clean your fruits and vegetables with a biodegradable wash. Reduce load on digestive system by reducing consumption of meats and other difficult-to-digest foods. Keep hydrated with purified water. Use royal jelly or active honey high on pantothenic acid as a soothing anti-inflammatory agent.”

Fatigue 疲倦

Fatigue is generally related to mental or physical tiredness following prolonged or intense mental or physical activity/stress. Conversely, a lack of adequate exercise can also cause fatigue. Inadequate nutritional or fluid intake may also contribute to fatigue. A diet rich in a multitude of vitamins and minerals is essential. Fatigue may also result from low iron intake, possibly anaemia. Iron is also required for a healthy immune system and for energy production. Prolonged fatigue may lead to other problems, such as depression.

Recent studies have shown that as many as 7 out of 10 pre-menopausal women do not get enough iron. Women, particularly during pregnancy, teenage girls, athletes and vegetarians are most likely to be at risk from inadequate iron intake.

Eye troubles 眼睛问题

A major cause of eye trouble is a poor diet. A deficiency in just one vitamin can lead to various eye problems. Include more fresh vegetables and fruit in the diet, especially more leafy greens and yellow/orange colored vegetables. Antioxidant supplementation will prevent cell damage by preventing the oxidation of fats and the formation of free radicals. Possible signs and symptoms Tired, burning, irritated eyes that may also be sensitive to light. Difficulty with night vision. Cataracts are related to the eye. Possible causes Eyes can be strained by intense close work, improper posture causing misalignment of neck vertebrae controlling nerve and blood flow to the eyes, inadequate light, air pollutants and poor nutrition. Applied nutrition If suffering from prolonged poor posture, long periods of sitting and office lighting, considering fixing those first. Get a better chair, keyboard rests/platforms; shade the lights to reduce contrast; and get a window seat to look out of the window at least once every 45 minutes. You only have one pair of eyes. Eczema 湿疹

Eczema is an itchy inflammation of the skin associated with other features such as redness of affected areas, generally dry skin, lumps or blisters and signs of superficial infections such as weeping or crusty deposits.

It is often difficult or impossible to determine the cause of eczema in any one person. It may arise and subside without warning. It may occur from contact with materials a person is allergic to, food allergies, air pollutant sensitivities and stress. It may also result from a yeast/fungal infection.

The itchiness associated with eczema is particularly uncomfortable. Reducing contact between that area and clothing is advised. Use high quality natural cotton or silk if that area needs to be clothed. Keep affected areas cool, aired and dry. Avoid hot showers and use a natural, dermatologist-tested, honey-based moisturiser for affected parts.

Applied nutrition

Keep hydrated with purified water.

Diarrhoea 肚泻

Diarrhoea is the passing of increased amounts of loose stool. It can be caused by viruses or bacteria and can be short term or long term lasting more than two to three weeks.

Diarrhoea is an infection usually due to consumption of contaminated drinking water, undercooked meat, eggs or other improperly processed foods and occurs when micro-organisms irritate the mucus membranes of the small or large intestine resulting in an abnormally large quantity of water in that area. The irritated gut becomes very active, contracting excessively and irregularly. Diarrhoea is often accompanied by stomach pains, nausea and vomiting.

Prevention

  • Avoid possibly contaminated places since bacteria and viruses can be transmitted from person to person.
  • Avoid possibly contaminated food and water.
  • Keep clean using soap and water especially after using the toilet.

Applied nutrition

  • It is tempting to suppress diarrhea using drugs but the body is often just reacting to an infection of the gut and trying to eliminate the harmful bacteria or viruses in that area. Suppression with drugs may help the harmful elements reside in the body for longer, causing further damage.
  • Avoid suppression unless the diarrhoea is prolonged.
  • Keep hydrated with purified water.

Constipation 便秘

Constipation is a condition of the digestive system where a person experiences hard faeces that are difficult to pass out. It may be extremely painful, and in severe cases, lead to symptoms of bowel obstruction.

Normally, waste products of digestion are propelled through one’s intestines by muscle contractions. Weak intestinal muscles may contribute to constipation. Water and salt is reabsorbed in the large intestine for the body’s functions. If too much water is absorbed, there is insufficient water or if waste moves along too slowly, constipation may result.

Possible signs and symptoms

Optimally, a person will go to the toilet 2 or 3 times a day depending on how many meals he/she has had. Going less than once a day is mild constipation. Anything less is serious constipation.

Constipation may result in bad breath, discomfort and bloating.

Possible causes

Insufficient fibre, water or calcium, lack of physical activity, stress, medication, changes in lifestyle and routine, ignoring the urge to go to the toilet or weak intestines.

Applied nutrition

Keep hydrated with purified water.
